RETURN VISIT! Cathlamet writer Lilly Robbins Brock, who is dedicated to telling the stories of World War II veterans,  came to Cathlamet Public Library again on Saturday May 13th at 3pm. She is the author of Ever A Soldier: Reflections of a veteran from horse cavalryman to WWII to Vietnam, and Wooden Boats & Iron Men: A World War II Sailor’s Life Story and His Passion to Help Save One of the Last Surviving PT Boats, a biography of WWII vets.

Washington State Poet Laureate Tod Marshall came here on Thursday, January 26th, to give a poetry reading.

The Washington State Poet Laureate program is jointly sponsored by the  Washington State Arts Commission (ArtsWA) and Humanities Washington. Poets laureate work to build awareness and appreciation of poetry--through public readings, workshops, lectures and presentations in communities throughout the state.

Tod Marshall was born in Buffalo, New York.  He grew up in Wichita, Kansas.  He studied English and philosophy at Siena Heights University, earned an MFA from Eastern Washington University, and graduated with his PhD from The University of Kansas.  He directs the writing concentration and coordinates the visiting writers series at Gonzaga University where he is the Robert K. and Ann J. Powers Endowed Professor in the Humanities.  He enjoys backpacking and fishing and spends about a month of every year in a tent.  From 2016-2018, he will serve as the Washington State Poet Laureate.

His work has been published in many journals, including Narrative, The Southern Review, The American Poetry Review, The Iowa Review, Shenandoah, Boulevard, The Colorado Review, The Denver Quarterly, The Columbia Poetry Review, Poetry East, Poetry Northwest, Volt, Interim, The Canary, Willow Springs, Cutbank, The Georgia Review, The Kenyon Review, and elsewhere.

A few kids came and enjoyed ROOMINATE at the Library April 8-22. We will try to get it again later this year, or next year.

Build houses, rooms, furniture, vehicles, and power them with an iPad.

 Imagine Academy Computer Training

Local residents needing to learn new information technology skills for their current job, a new career or just wanting to add some skills for personal enrichment can do so through Cathlamet Public Library thanks to a partnership between the Washington State Library and Microsoft.

Microsoft’s Imagine Academy program offers free training to participating Washington residents to help prepare them for jobs and careers in a global economy that is becoming more tech-dependent.

Cathlamet Public Library patrons will be able to access 250 courses offered on three basic levels: digital literacy, for those who need basic skills such as using a mouse or sending emails; e-learning courses that support Microsoft Office suites; and courses leading to professional technology certifications. Certification is available but at cost to the participant.

Librarian Carol Blix invites patrons to come and sign up for Imagine Academy, which can also be accessed on home computers that have the necessary software installed./sites/cathlamet/files/uploads/PropBoardMtgAgenda%2010-01-15.doc
